A wide range of basic skills courses are available tailored to individuals needs; studio use, recording, editing using industry standard software, programme making and presentation. Instruction ranges from single one hour sessions to regular sessions over a period of weeks. Costs are varied depending on circumstances. There are no restrictions on age or ability. Contact the director on 01985 212671 for details.

Basic training in radio skills is available continually to all those who show the aptitude and commitment to the organisation. Training in equipment operation and presentation skills is on going after basic training and provides media students with not only the skills for work in radio but also a good deal of experience. Media in particular is an area where basic skills and experience are essential; the difficulty of gaining experience when no organisation will accept you without it, is a problem that WCR tries to address with its training programme.  WCR will advise by trying to find work placements for aspiring professionals through their associations with other radio stations and radio professionals.

WCR also has many volunteers who have no intention of seeking a career in radio but like to be part of the community radio organisation; this can be as a presenter, a newsreader, a general assistant, fund-raiser or just a supporter. The age of our presenters and volunteers ranges from 12 years old to 85 years old (with plenty in between!)

WCR studios have been built to be disabled friendly, a step lift has been installed for access to the entire station. Training for Disabled or blind Persons is also available. WCR is hoping to be able to offer one to one training for those with learning difficulties soon.

If you would like to get involved and can commit at least an hour or two per week, please contact the Director.  We will arrange for you to visit the station and have a look round. This will be followed by an invite to visit the station at regular intervals to meet all of the staff, sit in on one or two programs and generally get to know us. You may be invited to visit on a Saturday to assist with news-reading. If after a while you are still keen to join the group, you will be invited to fill in an application form and placed on the training list.
